Nine: Cool Canteen, Dorky Hat, Nice Canteen, Gallant Hat, Great Canteen, Scope, Woolen Hat, Fire Drive, and Spectre Cloak.
Do trinkets cost Buccanary coins?
The shop shows a coin price for each one, but the prices are unlock thresholds against your lifetime collected total. All nine add up to 11,550, more than the 2,800 coins in the game, so taking a trinket does not lower your total.
Which trinket needs 2800 coins?
Spectre Cloak unlocks after every coin region on the pause menu is complete (2800 checklist). Grab it from the peg after Buccanary's cutscene, not from the counter dialogue.
What is the best trinket for combat?
Scope and Fire Drive directly buff Geddy and Alphonse. Canteens stack max HP for Otus. Spectre Cloak is the strongest mobility upgrade for late bosses if you finish coin cleanup first.

Which trinkets change gameplay vs cosmetics?

Canteens (3) — Stack maximum health. Recommended on a first run because they do not require aiming skill.

Scope & Fire Drive — Party DPS upgrades. Grab them before the toughest boss fights such as Dirk on the Dreadnought and the final fight against Solus; PSNProfiles notes the Spectre Cloak in particular makes the final boss much easier.

Hats (3) — Purely visual until hit. Useful for screenshots, not power.

Spectre Cloak — Movement trinket unlocked only after all menu coin regions read complete. Pick it up from the peg after the shop cutscene.

How does the shop actually work?

  1. Collect Buccanary coins in the world (rings, chests, pots, secrets).
  2. Pause and open Coins to see which region caps you still owe.
  3. Enter the emporium in Tropos; newly eligible items appear on display.
  4. Interact to claim the trinket—your coin total does not decrease.

The shop opens during the Tropos arc of the full walkthrough. After the finale you can teleport back and finish unlocks on the same save.

Spectre Cloak and the 2800 vs 2860 debate

Spectre Cloak is tied to the 2800-star checklist, not to optional wallet inflation. Some saves show 2860 coins in the HUD while the menu still tracks extras—see the coins guide for sources. If the cloak scene does not trigger, verify every zone reads complete, patch to the latest build, and use the v1.0.2 shop recovery code only after beating the story.
