What changed in Owlboy’s November 2026 anniversary update?

The anniversary patch (released November 1, 2026) is a quality-of-life and balance update, not new story DLC. D-Pad Studio’s Steam announcement groups changes into Settings toggles, new movement and combat inputs, cutscene flow, enemy and boss tuning, bug fixes, and an optional speedrunner configuration. If you are returning after years away, start in Options before you resume a save.

Where do I find the new Owlboy options?

Open the in-game Options Menu. The release notes add four toggles:

How does Super Dash work?

Hold Roll while you are rolling to enter Super Dash. Otus continues in his current facing direction with an additional boost instead of needing repeated roll taps. This is new movement tech—older walkthrough videos will not mention it.

Use Super Dash for:

• Crossing wide gaps when Otus is already rolling on the ground or in the air
• Chaining momentum after a dodge, especially if Drop Gunner On Dodge is enabled

What keyboard and cutscene shortcuts were added?

After the update, D-Pad Studio maps combat actions to Z / X / C:

The preview post adds that arrow keys move Otus, and together with auto-aim this is intended to support keyboard-only play (including on laptops without a mouse).

For story pacing:

• Hold Fast-forward (default F on keyboard or Right Bumper on controller) to fast-forward cutscenes
• The release notes also state returning players can skip major cutscenes, and several door/encounter halts were removed outright

What gameplay and balance changes matter in combat?

Beyond input changes, the official list highlights:

• Gunner drops: Enemies can be stunned by dropping Geddy or Alphonse on their heads—new crowd-control routes in fights that used to hard-require charged shots
• Throw direction: Pickups release in the direction Otus is flying when you press Throw
• Boss and enemy tuning: Multiple bosses received pattern changes and HP adjustments; Alphonse’s Blast now hits more enemy types; some layouts were widened for navigation
• Fire damage: Environmental fire no longer eats Otus’s health bar (still avoid hazards—this is a fairness pass, not invulnerability)
• Stealth: Pirates can be permanently stunned during stealth sections in more situations

Expect some boss strategies written before November 2026 to be slightly off—verify patterns in-game after the patch.

What is speedrunner mode in Owlboy?

Some long-standing glitches were left in on purpose because the speedrun community relies on them. Enable speedrunner mode either by:

1. Editing the settings file stored with your saves (Save Files/Owlboy), or
2. Opting into the Steam beta branch named speedrunner
